On Going Green.  A Position Paper By Catalyst Exhibits.

There is a great deal of noise being made today about going green.  We see it and hear it in virtually every business sector.  This is not a bad thing.  Unfortunately, much of it is superficial hype designed to do little more than engender (an often equally superficial) goodwill.  This is too bad.

We see all sorts of unlikely characters today loudly proclaiming themselves to be "Green" - as though the proclamation itself is enough.  But the truth is not as simple.  There are many issues involved.

This paper is about the notion of "reprocessing of old materials into new products, with the aims of preventing the waste of potentially useful materials, reducing the consumption of fresh raw materials, reducing energy usage, reducing air and water pollution (from incineration and land-filling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin production."i

In other words: rethink, reuse, reduce, and recycle.

We’ll deal with some other issues too.  The idea of "ecological footprinting" is germane and interesting.  And not just ours, but that of our clients.  You see, our entire focus at Catalyst Exhibits is upon what we can do for our clients.  Reducing our ecological footprint is important, and we work on this every day.  But we know that real change will come if we simultaneously help our clients to reduce their ecological footprints.

This paper is, in fact, an argument in favor of the way we do business.  It is a statement of how our company helps our clients to reduce their ecological footprints while growing their businesses through effective tradeshow marketing.  This paper is a challenge to exhibit professionals.  If you are interested, please answer it.  Don't hesitate to contact us any time.

At Catalyst Exhibits we believe that strategies should be timely while values should be timeless.  And it is important not to confuse strategies and values lest we confuse the fundamental nature of who we are and what we do.  Values are who we are.  Strategies are what we do.  To us, sustainability tied with economic growth tied to care of the world around us is a value proposition.  And it has always been so.

Our business is about rethinking and reusing exhibit assets in meaningful ways that contribute to the success of our clients.  We continually seek to identify and implement efficiencies through reductions of raw materials or reapplications of them.  We are always seeking ways to reduce our footprints and recycle those materials that cannot be reduced.  Why?  It makes good business sense and translates to greater value to our clients.

When we do build new custom trade show exhibits and custom rental components, we do so responsibly.  Sustainably.  Renewably.  We seek to minimize waste and increase durability so things last longer in the first place.

But the truth is that being "green" can mean almost anything.  In fact, it is somewhat difficult to claim that anything you do isn't green in some way.

"Going green" is merely a slogan, signifying almost nothing in particular.   At Catalyst, we think in terms of measurable ecological footprints: ours AND yours.
